Shirley Confino-Rehder
Shirley Confino-Rehder, a retired certified interior designer, brings a unique perspective to the Tidewater Classical Guitar board. Although she is the only board member who doesn't play an instrument, her passion for music and the arts is evident. Shirley holds art studio classes weekly, fostering creativity and artistic expression within her community. As a docent at the Chrysler Museum and a board member of both the Virginia Opera and Tidewater Classical Guitar, she actively supports the performing arts in Norfolk.
Shirley's dedication to accessibility in the arts is unparalleled. As the past Chair of the Norfolk Commission for Persons with Disabilities for 15 years, she initiated programs that enable individuals with low vision and blindness to experience visual arts in architecture and museums, both in the United States and Japan. In Norfolk, she was instrumental in developing programs that allow individuals with visual and hearing disabilities to enjoy music, and she co-founded Access Virginia, an organization now led by Lois Boyle, which continues to make the arts accessible to all.
Her extensive experience and commitment to inclusivity make Shirley an invaluable asset to the Tidewater Classical Guitar board, where she continues to advocate for the integration of the arts into the lives of all community members.
