Rodrigo Romulo, President
A long-time classical guitar afficionado, Dr. Romulo has been on the TCG Board since 2016 and president since 2018. He has played a lead role in setting TCG’s vision and strategic planning and continues to provide leadership and direction on the Board. A busy Infectious Disease physician, he is the founding partner of Tidewater Infectious Disease Physicians that practices at three hospitals in the Hampton Roads area and now includes four other ID physicians and a nurse practitioner. He has had a long and unusual medical career that spans four decades and includes field research in Schistosomiasis, clinical practice in Infectious and Tropical Diseases in the Philippines, coalition building and advocacy for tuberculosis control as the chairman of the Philippine Coalition Against Tuberculosis, and public health policy development, having chaired the committee that created the Philippine National Tuberculosis Control Policy. He dabbled in International public health, serving on Technical Advisory Committee of the Global Drug facility based at the WHO in Geneva, Switzerland and served as the Senior Technical Advisor for the USAID Project “Tuberculosis Initiatives in the Private Sector” in the Philippines. As an educator he served on the medical faculty at Brown University School of Medicine, in Providence, Rhode Island, then at his alma mater, the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, and as an executive of a large pharmaceutical company, pioneered a unique non-commercial CME (continuing medical education) program for practicing physicians in the Philippines. He moved to the Tidewater area in 2004 and has remained ever since. Until recently he was a member of the Board of Bon Secours Mercy Hampton Roads and is currently on the Board of the General Douglas MacArthur Foundation.
