Raffle for Reproduction 19th Century Panormo Guitar by Luthier George Thomas
WIN YOUR DREAM GUITAR!!
Tidewater Classical Guitar is raffling off an exquisitely hand-crafted guitar made by local luthier George Thomas of Gloucester, Virginia. This reproduction is patterned after an 1838 guitar by Louis Panormo.
Louis Panormo’s guitars are recognized as some of the finest early examples of Spanish style guitars crafted outside of Spain. His signature melding of traditional English craftsmanship with Spanish innovations helped influence the benchmark for modern classical guitar design.
Prior to crafting this 19th century reproduction, George Thomas was allowed to acoustically test two original 1838 Louis Panormo guitars: one at the St. Cecilia collection of historic musical instruments at the University of Edinburgh, and the second in James Westbrook’s private collection, Hove, UK.
The result is a beautiful replica of an 1838 Panormo romantic guitar with exceptional tonal qualities.
George Thomas’ hand-crafted guitars are played in academic guitar programs at Austin Peay University, Guilford College, Appalachian State University, NC School of the Arts, and Peabody Conservatory. Three winners of the Guitar Foundation of America competition have performed on Thomas’ hand-crafted Panormos.
The Reproduction 19th Century Panormo Guitar being raffled is valued at $2,500.
